FAQs

Got questions about our dog food? This is where you’ll find answers.

How much raw food to feed a puppy?

Puppies need plenty of energy to support healthy growth and development This means that many puppies will require 5-10% of their body weight to be fed in raw food per day.

The amount of food needed gradually reduces, reaching around 5% of their bodyweight by 6 months of age with a view to reaching the adult maintenance level of 2-3% of their body weight. Move to adult food at 12 months old.

Puppy’s Weight 0-5 Months 5-12 Months
1 – 5 kg 90 – 450 g 50 – 250 g
5 – 15 kg 450 – 1350 g 250 – 750 g

How much raw food to feed an adult dog?

For an adult dog, we advise feeding between 2% to 3% of their body weight per day of healthy, raw food. For example an adult dog weighing 10kg may require 200g – 300g per day.

When calculating how much raw food for your dog, remember all dogs are individuals – some need a little less and some need more. Consider their size, energy levels, how active they are and how stressed they may be. As your dog gets older you may wish to switch them to senior dog food.

How much raw food to feed a senior dog?

Most dogs will be considered senior at around 8 years old, however larger breeds should make the swap to senior food at around 6 years of age. This ensures that they are getting the right balance of protein, fats and other key nutrients to maintain optimum health in their older years. Their feeding requirements may also change, older dogs tend to move around less and so in order to avoid weight gain it’s important that you take their body condition into account.

An approximate guideline for feeding your senior dog is 2-3% of their weight, daily – same amounts as for adult dogs.

How often should you feed a dog?

Individual requirements should determine how often a dog is fed. While some dogs are picky with their food and prefer to eat smaller portions, others enjoy large bowls and eating less often.

As a guide, puppies generally require four meals per day from around eight weeks of age, decreasing to three meals per day at 12 weeks and two meals per day from around 16-18 weeks onwards.

How can you weigh your dog?

Most vet practices will have accessible scales that you can use to weigh your dog.

If you want to do it at home, the best way is to stand on the scales without your dog and then stand on the scales with you dog and calculate the difference to get your dog’s weight. Read more on ideal dog weight in our guide.
