Why is the food frozen?

We aim to provide your pet with the most nutritional species-appropriate food possible, and that’s why we freeze our food instead of cooking it, which can deplete the nutritional value of the ingredients.

Our high-quality ingredients are frozen at source and remain frozen throughout production. The complete meals are stored in our freezers at -18 degrees before being delivered to you.

How will my food be delivered?

Your pet’s food will be delivered frozen by our delivery partner Trunkrs. The food is packaged in tubs, with tubs of dog food weighing 500g and tubs of cat food weighing 250g.

If you will not be in on the day of delivery, you can leave an instruction behind for the driver.

Will my food defrost during delivery?

We package your pet’s food in a double-insulated box with dry ice, which can keep food at a frozen temperature for up to 2 days. While we aim for all our food to be delivered frozen, occasionally, it may have already started to defrost during dispatch. However, if the tubs are cold to the touch and are 4 degrees or less, it’s safe to refreeze the tubs and use them as normal.

How do I defrost a tub?

Take a tub from your freezer and place it on the bottom shelf of your fridge. It can take up to 24 hours for the food in the tub to defrost, but this depends on your fridge settings and the number of tubs you are defrosting.

Keep the food in the tub while defrosting or, if needed, place it in a suitable sealable container.

To defrost less than a tub, start by defrosting the whole tub in the fridge just until the food is soft enough to cut. Then, portion out how much you need and place it in a sealed container at the bottom of the fridge. Put the remaining back into the freezer.

How long does defrosted food last in the fridge?

Once defrosted, your pet’s food will keep in the fridge for up to 4 days, so you can store 4 days worth of food in there, freeing up a little space in the freezer.

In a rush?

Forgotten to defrost your pet’s food? Don’t worry, we’ve all done it! To defrost a frozen meal quickly, place a tub of frozen food into a bowl of cool water. It will take around an hour to defrost.

If the food is cold to the touch, mash it with a bit of warm water or warm bone broth.

Please, never defrost our raw food in the microwave, as this will make the bone in the food brittle, making it likely to splinter when your pet eats it.
