Dog Food, As It Should Be

Your dog’s digestive system is not built to digest ultra-processed food that’s high in grains, low in meat and cooked at extreme temperatures.

Fresher Ingredients

Premium meat, vegetables and berries from vetted suppliers. Balanced by nutritionists with all the vitamins and minerals dogs need, in their most natural form.

Less Processing

Ingredients are frozen at source to lock in their nutritional goodness, flavours and aromas. Freezing locks bacteria out, and means there’s no need for artificial preservatives.

More Nutrition

Complete with everything your dog needs to thrive and developed by nutritionists to meet FEDIAF guidelines, a raw, natural diet gives your dog the fuel to live their best lives.

FAQs

Got questions about our raw dog food? This is where you’ll find answers.

How do I feed my dog raw?

Our raw feeding guide for adult dogs and our puppy raw feeding guide will take you through everything you need to know about how much to feed a dog, how often to feed a dog and top tips and advice to make mealtimes enjoyable and hassle-free for you and your best friend.

In our how to feed a dog guide, we explain the natural feeding method, which is specifically designed to encourage dogs to eat in a calm, relaxed environment, ensuring they feel comfortable at all times.

How much raw dog food should I feed?

For an adult dog, we advise feeding between 2% to 3% of their body weight per day of healthy, fresh raw dog food. For example, an adult dog weighing 10kg may require 200g – 300g per day. Use our raw food feeding calculator for an estimated daily amount for your dog.

Is your raw dog food frozen?

Yes. We freeze our ingredients at the source to lock in the nutrients. This ensures your dog gets the best nutritional value possible. The ingredients remain frozen when we mix your best friend’s complete raw dog food in our factory. Then, we deliver it frozen to your door. We add dry ice to the boxes to reduce the temperature to -45 °C (which is way colder than typical freezers), ensuring that the meals won’t start thawing.

The only time the food is defrosted is when you defrost it at home to feed your dog.

Is raw dog food safe?

Yes! We routinely test for Salmonella so you, your dog and your family are safe. All of our food is regularly checked to the highest industry standards and beyond. This is rigorous and taken extremely seriously. You can learn more about how we ensure the safety of our raw dog food here.

We’re also the only UK raw pet food brand with both RawSAFE and UK Pet Food certifications. This means you can be confident that each and every Bella+Duke raw meal is made to the highest safety standards.

You will also practice safe food hygiene as you always would with any raw meat you would eat yourself.

Furthermore, we have specifically packaged the food so you can defrost safely at a controlled temperature overnight in the fridge, and you don’t even need to handle the meat.

Here are six reasons why raw feeding is safe.

Does your dog food provide complete nutrition?

Yes, our raw dog food is complete and balanced. Each meal contains the right amount of protein, fat, and vitamins and minerals your dog needs to thrive.

Is Bella+Duke a subscription?

Yes, this means that you never run out of your dog’s delicious raw meals. It also means that the food doesn’t sit in storage for months like other ultra-processed foods, and that you’re dog’s food is always as fresh as possible. Learn more about how our dog food subscription works.

Where do your ingredients come from?

We source our high-quality meat from BRC Accredited human-grade factories, and the other ingredients come from UK farms where the food you eat is grown.

Is your dog food grain free?

Yes, dogs aren’t equipped to eat grains or glutens, so you’ll never find any in our meals. If you would like to know more, learn more from our guide to why choose grain-free dog food or discover our ingredients.

Is your dog food gluten free?

Yes, our meals are gluten-free as we focus on using ingredients that have nutritional value.

Is your dog food high-protein?

Yes, all of our raw dog food meals are high in protein. The amount of protein varies from meal to meal; however, the minimum amount in any meal is 80%.

What are the benefits of raw dog food?

After switching to raw dog food, our customers notice major changes in their dogs’ poo. It becomes more compact and easier to manage. Many report improvements in their dog’s coat, too, especially it being shinier and fuller. Enthusiasm at mealtimes increases.

But this is not all! Discover all benefits of raw dog food further in our guide.

You can also join our community, The Pack, to discuss the benefits of raw dog food with other friendly raw dog food feeders.

Are there flavours that better fit a puppy or older dogs?

Which flavours are best for your puppy, senior, and adult dog depends on their preferences. Some dogs like milder flavours such as chicken and turkey, while others will love the richer flavours of beef, lamb, and duck. The health of your dog can also guide what flavours they can have, with some illnesses needing to avoid certain proteins. Our Customer Care team is on hand to guide you on which flavours are best for your dog.

Can I switch flavours between deliveries?

Yes, you can easily manage the flavours your dog receives in your customer account.

Which flavours do you recommend for fuzzy dogs?

For dogs who take a while to adjust to new foods, it’s better to start with milder-tasting proteins like Chicken and Turkey, and then gradually introduce other flavours.

What is natural dog food?

Natural dog food is food that is biologically appropriate, meaning it matches what dogs would naturally eat in the wild. Our raw food includes human-quality meat, seasonal vegetables and berries, and healthy fats – we don’t use gluten or grains, and we never cook our food.

Is Bella+Duke fresh dog food?

While the ingredients we use are super fresh (seasonal and sustainable too), our meals are not fresh dog food, they’re raw.

Fresh dog food refers to meals that are cooked at a lower temperature than traditional foods. Whereas raw food (like ours) sees the finest raw ingredients frozen at source, they stay frozen throughout production and they arrive at your door frozen too. In fact, the only time they’ll leave this frozen state is when you defrost your dog’s meals ready to serve up.

We stand by raw, because even low cooking temperatures can result in the loss of nutrients that your dog needs to thrive, such as amino acids. These will then need to be added back in as artificial ingredients. Raw food is rich in enzymes that make it easier for your dog to digest (these enzymes are destroyed in the cooking process), and it’s closer to the food they’re naturally evolved to eat too.
